When is it OK to Question a Parent’s Method of Discipline?

rebeca  Thursday, July 15, 2010

The other day I was complaining on my personal facebook wall about how difficult my soon to be 3-year-old has been. He’s been pushing my husband and me to the limits and some days it just feels like we can’t take any more. Most people who follow my posts know that my little guy brings [...]

Docs Don’t Know Shit about Allergies; Mom Does

rebeca  Tuesday, June 8, 2010

I recently read the article When Food Hurts from the Boston Globe, which details pretty much what I’ve been saying all along…doctors don’t know shit about allergies.
My little man started having chronic ear infections around age 1 when we switched him from soy formula to whole milk. We went through rounds and rounds of antibiotics, [...]

rebeca  Monday, May 31, 2010

Did you know that motor vehicle crashes remain the leading cause of death for children between the ages of 2 and 14 in the United States? Even though many parents use car seats, more than 80% of them are installed incorrectly. That’s a startling reality! The good news is that there are plenty of opportunities [...]

I Believed Babies R Us When they Told Me What I Needed

rebeca  Friday, May 14, 2010

Parenting.com blogger Mighty Maggie asked readers if there is any one product (or even a Parenting Philosophy!) you so fully bought into that it’s actually surprising when you realize there are alternatives? (check out the post here)
I thought I’d chime in because I recently had my own revelation along these lines. To celebrate the launch of my site, [...]

A Newborn’s Conversation with God

rebeca  Sunday, May 9, 2010

A baby asked God, “They tell me you are sending me to earth tomorrow, but how am I going to live there being so small and helpless?”
God said, “Your angel will be waiting for you and will take care of you.”
The child further inquired, “But tell me, here in heaven I don’t have to do [...]

UPDATE: Flaw in Facebook Privacy Settings

rebeca  Thursday, April 29, 2010

It has come to my attention that there is a serious flaw in Facebook’s privacy settings.  I thought I should share this information because most people think that if they have their privacy options set to “friends only” that—as the name implies—only friends can see their posts. But that’s not the case anymore. In fact, [...]

rebeca  Monday, April 12, 2010

Did you know that eWaste is the fastest growing source of waste stream today? I’ve know about the hazards of electronic waste for some time now…and that is exactly why I have a pile of used gear in my office. I have insisted that my husband not throw any of it away, but that’s the [...]

sun protection: everything you need to know

rebeca  Wednesday, March 31, 2010

Spring has sprung and here in Indiana temperatures are hovering in the high 70s. This means lots of outdoor playtime with the kids, and of course time to whip out the sunscreen. I’m sure you’re already aware of the importance of sunscreen, so I won’t lecture you on that aspect. But, while we all know [...]

Stash with Trash: Repurpose all those Containers

Before tossing it into the recycling bin or trash can, take a moment to think about how you can repurpose a lot of your household trash. For example, a leftover egg carton can be used to organize a craft drawer, or separate tiny hair pieces. Let your kids paint it for more style. An empty diaper wipes container is perfect for storing plastic grocery bags in the car or nursery, or you can repurpose it as a storage box for crayons, toy parts or other craft supplies. Got a messy top drawer in your office? Glass baby food jars are perfect for storing paperclips, push pins and other small office supplies.
