The Average Parent Throws a Baby Shower
Friday, February 19, 2010
I have to say that I really love blogging and sharing my experiences as a parent with so many great people. Since I started this endeavor, I’ve had the opportunity to build some really interesting and impacting relationships. Outside of communicating with all of you, one of my favorite parts of the job is that I get to try so many new things. I’ve formed some great partnerships with a handful of wonderful companies and am finding great new products every day…products that I love sharing with all of you. But, that’s really not the extent of it.
Blogging isn’t all about me. It’s an opportunity to share with others.
When I realized how great I had it, I started wondering how I could share this good fortune just a bit more. I started contacting my corporate partners and came up with an idea to throw a baby shower for a few local moms in need. Here’s how I made it work: any time a company sends me a product to review or give away, I encourage them to send an additional product to give to charity. It’s not a requirement, but a suggestion, which makes it just a bit more special that each and every company has stepped up by sending extra products. Some companies have even sent products when there was very little benefit for them.
Partnering with The Lord’s Pantry
So…in about a week, I’ll be partnering with The Lord’s Pantry at Anna’s House in Indianapolis to throw a baby shower for about 15 local moms. We’ll be giving away a stroller and car seat from Britax, a BabyBjorn carrier, Medela breast pump, some cups from Playtex, sunscreen from Banana Boat and Coppertone, clothes, diapers and other basic new baby supplies. I wanted to do this because I know how hard it is to take care of a child on a limited income. My family’s budget is so tight it squeaks…but when it comes down to it, my son always has what he needs. I can’t imagine how much more difficult parenthood would be if I knew I simply couldn’t afford the things he needed.
You can help too
I would like to send my sincere gratitude to those companies who have agreed to donate, as well as to my wonderful friends who have stepped up to fill in the holes. I would also like to take this opportunity to welcome any additional donations. If you live in the Indianapolis area, we would welcome new or like new baby gear (high chair, stroller, pack and play, etc.) and can arrange for a meeting. If you live outside the Indianapolis area and would like to give, please consider using Paypal or contacting me at theaverageparent [at] gmail [dot] com to arrange direct delivery.
Every little bit will help make the lives of these young ladies just a bit easier as they embark on the journey of parenthood.
