Enter to Win a Frontier 85 from Britax – Ends 5/24
Monday, May 17, 2010
This contest is now over. Congratulations, Regina H, you’re the winner. (You’re going to love it!) Please email theaverageparent [at] gmail [dot] com with your shipping address and phone number within 2 business days and I’ll put your shipment into motion.
One lucky reader will have a chance to win the latest (and greatest) car seat from Britax. The Frontier 85 is a new combination booster seat that offers the highest harnessed weight and height capacity in the industry. The seat allows children to remain in a five-point harness up to 85 pounds with a seated shoulder height of up to 20 inches. As a belt-positioning booster, the seat can accommodate children up to 120 pounds and 65 inches tall. See my review to learn just how much I love my Frontier 85.
Designed to keep children in a five-point harness for as long as possible, the Frontier 85 helps safely graduate children who are at least 2 years old and weigh at least 25 pounds from their convertible car seats. And, because it doesn’t expire for nine years, it will definitely be the last car seat you’ll ever need. The True Side Impact Protection technology includes deeper side walls, and works to distribute crash forces, shield from vehicle intrusion, contain the head and body, and keep the head, neck and spine aligned.
In order to accommodate the higher height limit and provide a secure fit, the Frontier 85 offers a total of 10 harness positions and three buckle strap positions. The harness also has a cobble weave design with sewn buckle stops to help prevent the harness from twisting and sliding out of place. Some other top features included: a quick-adjust head restraint, no-rethread harness, color-coded vehicle belt guides, Versa-Tether, Harness Ultra Guard System (HUGS) and premium LATCH connectors. The seat also offers big, comfortable armrests, dual cup holders, and a durable, washable cover.
The Frontier 85 comes in four fashions and retails for about $279.99.

We have the Britax Marathon for my 2 year old. it has HUGS, but I honestly had no idea what HUGS was. (I was also in the hormonal imbalance when he outgrew his infant carrier). Now I do

I liked the way this was stated. We LOVE our Britax and we have had the Frontier on our wish list.
Energy cannot be destroyed but can be transferred from one object or one form to another. The key to minimizing risk of serious injury during a side impact crash is to make sure energy from a crash is transferred to something other than the child.

We love our Marathons and already know about their great customer service! I would love this seat for my 4 yr. old! I was thinking of getting him a booster in the fall when our 3rd is due, mainly so I wouldn’t need a new infant carrier (ours expired and my babies are big and outgrow them quickly!). This looks like an awesome seat!
I learned that Britax has strollers-had no idea!
So now that I am on the right page, I LOVE Britax! And the Average Parent! Of course I follow you!

I love that it has 10 harness height positions (up to 20″) and three buckle positions. My daughter is small for her age, so we’re always fighting with car seats.
I didn’t know what that other bar was on the Chaperone car seat. I thought it was another handle! Of course I was wrong! It’s an anti-rebound bar! Genious!
Love the new anit-rebound bar!

Being the car seat nut that I am, of course I posted this to my FB site.
I didn’t realize they made a seat that went to 85 pounds. The seat in my husbands car only goes to 40 pounds….If I don’t win this I will be sure to buy one!
I love the “premium LATCH connectors” — they are so much easier to install, especially when you are constantly changing seats! I never knew that the “audible click” was a feature, but it does come in handy.
I “like” Britax’s FB page now!
The Frontier is on my list for my daughter’s next seat, but I didn’t know all the details. On the website I learned it converts from harnessed to belt positioning booster. Just what I need!
I had never heard about SecureGuard either! Very great stuff!
I’m your fan on facebook already! That’s how I learned of this!
I’m also already a fan of Britax. I love their seats!
Just posted this page to my facebook profile.
I didn’t know you were on Twitter too! I follow you there now.
I already follow Britax on Twitter. Again, I love their seats! I really need this Frontier to complete my “collection”.
Frontier 85 is recommended for age 2 and up, yet Leo is already well within the size range. Interesting thing I have learned: Leo is bigger than a 2 year old!

So, I’m one of those people who never even looked into a Britax because they are so exspensive! But can you put a price tag on the safty of your child! We need a new carseat, Mason has out grown the carrier, and Michael is not big enough for a plan booster seat. If I don’t win this, I will be talking to my husband about this seat!
I learned that Britax also workes with the medical community to service children with special needs. They make the Snugseat.

1 in 4 accidents occurs from the side. Thank you for doing this.
I did a special search on their site for carseats that match our needs and found 8. One important thing for us is that the Frontier 85 is Certified for Aircraft Travel in Harness Mode. We travel by plane a lot so this is great for us!

Have followed and love your page on FB for a while now!
Britax invented the Versa-Tether to anchor the seat securely in either rear or forward facing positions and IMO is the best thing they could have come up with and a vital irreplacable component of all car seats!
My DD needs a new car seat as hers is quite aged but I cannot afford to purchase one right now as we are in a transitional period in our lives (I recently became a single mom), so this would be such a blessing for us!

We love our Marathon and RoundAbout 50.
without adjustable handlebars though, i worry that it’s too short for a 5′11″ Mom with back pain?
I’ve been thinking of purchasing a lightweight umbrella stroller for the first time, and now know the Britax “Blink” is available
Thanks for the contest!
I love our Britax roundabouts, but I didn’t realize that my daughter would grow so much faster than my son. On the website, I loved how you could type in your child’s information and it would tell you which seats would fit. That really helps to figure out the mystery.

didnt realize that our convertible only goes to 49″ standing height. the frontier will be great as our toddler grows!

I just read about Britax’s companionn company, Snug Seat, that provides seats for children with special needs. I myself have a child with special needs, and am touched just knowing that this manufacturer provides products for ALL of our children in society……
At Britax, we not only manufacture seats for the general public, but also for the medical community to service children with special needs.
Thank you Britax!

P.S. We already have a Marathon for my 3 year old daughter and are ready to purchase a Frontier……never a doubt in my mind about which booster seat to get….what a nice feeling!!!

the Secure guard clip is pretty cool. I wish the seat i have currently would have that…i’m a single mom, on a very limited budget, ah well…
I love that the Parkway Booster is rated up to 120 lbs. AND that it has side impact and a removable back! cool.

I can’t believe this car seat can go from a 25 lb toddler and convert into a booster seat for over 100lbs. How fabulous is that.? ALL-in-ONE !! I love it!
What I learned about this carseat that I didn’t know:
No Re-thread Harness Adjustment allows you to adjust the harness height without having to re-thread the harness straps.

Britax is known for their quality carseats and products not just in the US, but also Europe and the Pacific.
We love Britax. We currently own two of them, and while my oldest is now in a booster, I don’t feel he’s ready because he moves around and slouches, and I worry the belt will not protect him adequately. This seat is the perfect answer. What I learned from your website video…
Secure Guard Booster Technology is great! I wish we had that on our current seat. No more slouching worries as this will hold the belt where it needs to be.
No rethread harness adjustment is fabulous too. No worries about rethreading properly and much easier to use.
Thanks for the innovation!

I love this carseat! For a busy mom of three ages 16/14 years old and the surprise girl who is 3, the features I love are: the cup holder ( many soccer games to go to), the HUG harness system, the quick simple installation feature for the drop off/pick up of the babysitter and the ideal fact that it will last for many years to come! It is attractive and comfortable! Britax is a wonderful safe company. I love this seat!
Side Impact Protection Revealed
Facts about Side Impact Crashes
Side impact crashes pose a serious threat to child safety and therefore make side impact protection a necessity for child seats. In fact:
* 1 in 4 crashes occur from the side
* Injuries are more severe in side impact crashes
* 30% of fatalities are a result of side impact crashes
* Vehicle side air curtains are designed to protect adults, not children
Source: Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia; National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
How Injuries Occur in a Side Impact Crash
When a car is hit from the side, a child could possibly be injured by:
* The lack of a “crumple zone” between the child and the vehicle door resulting in direct impact of the oncoming vehicle.
* Contact with any intruding objects such as the car door, glass, metal shards, etc.
* Acceleration of the body as the car comes to a sudden halt; a quick change in speed is what causes injury to the body.
During a side impact crash both the child’s head and chest are extremely vulnerable to injury. The chest is more exposed because the child’s shoulders are wider than the head, and therefore likely to be the first point of contact with intruding objects coming from the side and jolting the chest. The child’s head should always be protected to avoid serious and permanent injury.
Minimizing Injuries in a Side Impact Crash
Energy cannot be destroyed but can be transferred from one object or one form to another. The key to minimizing risk of serious injury during a side impact crash is to make sure energy from a crash is transferred to something other than the child.
Britax True Side Impact Protection
Britax developed side impact protection for its full line of car seats with several of its seats featuring True Side Impact Protection™. True Side Impact Protection utilizes the rigid seat shell, lined with energy-absorbing foam, along with the head restraint to keep the child’s head and chest protected from the side impact crash forces. More specifically, True Side Impact Protection does four things:
* Distributes crash forces.
* Shields the child from vehicle intrusion.
* Contains the head and body.
* Minimize side to side head movement and literally “trues” the head keeping the neck and spine aligned to limit potential injury.

I Love the design of this seat, I would love to have one for my son, he is 5 and has cerebral palsy and is not yet ready for a booster. He is almost to the weight limit on his current car seat.
I went onto your website and I really like the fact that the seat has the foam to help absorb the impact from a crash! It said the following,
“Injuries occur when crash force energy comes in contact with your child. Energy cannot be destroyed; it can only be managed or diverted away from your child. EPS foam is used to absorb some of that crash force energy. If it can be absorbed by components of the seat or diverted away from your child, then your child is not absorbing that crash force energy.”

Britax convertible car seats can be used rear facing from 5 to 35 pounds and forward facing from 1 year and 20 pounds, up to 65 pounds. High-capacity convertibles allow your child to stay in a five-point harness through the toddler years.
This info is good to know seeing as I need to buy 2 new convertible car seats in the next 4 months or so. I have heard a lot of great things about the Britax Marathon but havent really looking into the specifics until tonight. This contest forced me to read all about it. Thanks!!

I learned that some car seats Britax makes have harness that dont need to be rethread like the one I have now. What a great time saver, and gives reassurance that you wont accidently twist the harness straps.
I like the idea that they run through many virtual simulations of crash-tests and assess the injuries sustained by the occupants before even beginning to make physical models.
