Win a Prize Pack to Host Your Own Tasting

tastingI recently participated in a tasting event with my Mothers & More group and it was a blast. We chose to do wine because, unfortunately, most of the group doesn’t care for beer. But, this can definitely be done with moms and dads who enjoy beer….as there is just as much variety in that arena as there is with wine. My group had some novice wine drinkers as well as those who were well versed in tasting, so it was a great variety to work with. Cabot Creamery andSarris Candies provided us with an assortment of cheeses and chocolates for pairing, and most of us found some new favorites. I wasn’t able to sample any wine, but I did find some new cheeses and chocolates that I absolutely loved. Cabot’s Sun-Dried Tomato Basil Cheddar and Vintage Choice Cheddar are amazing, as are the truffles from Sarris Candies. Yummy!

The best part is that Cabot and Sarris are also offering one of you a chance to win a gift box to host your own wine or beer tasting event. Let me tell you a bit about the companies and what’s included in your prize:

Cabot Creamery is a farmer owned cooperative comprised of farmers throughout New England and New York who produce all natural, award-winning cheeses. Once you try their cheese you’ll understand why they are fastest growing cheddar supplier in the country–due in large part to customer loyalty. Cabot is hands down one of my favorite cheeses.

Valued at more than $50, the Cabot gift pack includes a premium cutting board, knife and hand towel, along with 8 oz cheddar bars of Vintage Choice, Private Stock, Seriously Sharp, Chipotle, Sun-Dried Tomato Basil, and Reduced Fat Pepper Jack.

Sarris Candies is a mid-sized family-owned chocolate company located just outside Pittsburgh. As a native to Pittsburgh, I grew up loving their products as my dad would bring home a box for just about every holiday. Since then, the company has grown to be much more than a local hit. With sales throughout select retail outlets in 12 states, and internet orders from around the country, the Sarris brand continues to win the hearts of chocolate lovers near and far. One taste of Sarris chocolates and you’ll fall in love too!

Also valued at more than $50, the Sarris gift pack includes a 10oz box of their gourmet truffles, a 10oz box of 72% cocoa solid dark chocolate and a 1lb box of their milk and dark chocolate assortment.

  1. Hello!! What a perfect contest for me and my hubby. We love good wine and delicious cheeses and other treats, and love to discover new pairings that we wouldn’t have thought of. Tim has been out of work for several months, so we also love ideas for a fun evening that doesn’t break the bank!

Here’s what I learned from Cabot’s Web site: The Goodrich Farm in West Danville, VT, has the most beautiful baby calves I have ever seen. The photos are lovely, and they make me want to visit those three smiling people and their gorgeous livestock. I’m a farm girl at heart. I want to taste that cheese from such handsome cows.

At the Sarris site, I learned that I’d like to test their Bloc Chocolate when I bake. I bake a good deal during the holidays, and I tend to use the same chocolates. Time for something new!

I’m already a follower of The Average Parent on Facebook and Twitter, lucky me! I’ll be posting this to my Facebook profile as well.

    Cheers!

  2. I went to the Cabot website and was, of course, drawn to their wine-pairing section and recipes … I’m always looking for a good wine and recipe advice. And having a glass fetish (as opposed to a drinking problem), I loved the Four Essential Wine Glass section (must add a few to my collection). Baked Cabot Cheddar Cheese Crisps are definitely in my future. Basically, the whole website is news to me, and I love the New England co-op thing!

As I am a Sarris fan (and Pgh South Hills Native myself so have made many a visit … nothing better than Sarris Ice-Cream on a summer evening) I was a tad worried I wouldn’t find anything new, but alas … they reminded me that Valentine’s Day is a coming … and viola! Didn’t know the pretzels were available in 1 lb Valentine Decorated pails, must pick one up this weekend & send it off to my son at college! Better yet, I’ll use your free shipping code and have them send it!! Might be early, but will also be … FREE!!!

Now on to the hard part … oh dear god, how do I post a page on facebook and twitter … your demographic is showing my friend!!

Wish me luck … an old, yet average parent, trying to keep up!

    Valli

  8. From Cabot : the thing that popped out at me from their web site was the “All Star Chef” program. This is such a great idea — getting schools to encourage kids to experiment in the kitchen and providing guides for schools to start such programs. The motto is so true: “I hear and I forget; I see and I remember; I do and I understand.” Kids like to play in the kitchen and from my experience, are more likely to actually eat healthy food if they helped prepare it.

From Sarris: *LOVE* the S’mores cookie bar recipe! Great idea to make your own cookie bars instead of using the dry packaged graham crackers. They look delicious and pretty easy to make. Gotta try that one!

  9. Checked out both sites. Cabot has interesting information on Cheddar and Wine pairings and Cheddar and Beer pairings. They also have info on different kinds of wine and beer glasses. Very cool! Sarris has yummy looking Valentine’s Day Oreos and an Ice Cream Parlour that looks fabulous!

Stash with Trash: Repurpose all those Containers

Before tossing it into the recycling bin or trash can, take a moment to think about how you can repurpose a lot of your household trash. For example, a leftover egg carton can be used to organize a craft drawer, or separate tiny hair pieces. Let your kids paint it for more style. An empty diaper wipes container is perfect for storing plastic grocery bags in the car or nursery, or you can repurpose it as a storage box for crayons, toy parts or other craft supplies. Got a messy top drawer in your office? Glass baby food jars are perfect for storing paperclips, push pins and other small office supplies.
